Five Month Update
February 18, 2004 - 10:00 a.m.

Marlee is FIVE months old today!

She's still about 14.5lbs. She looks so big and solid and seems longer every day. Her size 3 diapers seem so small on her already (although they are supposed to fit 16-18lbs, her little legs are so fat and long)!

She's been crabby and not sleeping well for about 3 weeks now. She has a cold this week, it started with sneezing and a runny nose, a sore throat (her voice was crackly) and she's stuffed up at night. She's been up 5 times a night (at least) for the last 3 weeks. We tried a few ounces of a new formula but that only worked for two nights. We've tried feeding her cereal, since she seems to be so much hungrier now than she used to be. She loves the cereal, she whines while I am getting it ready and in between bites. She also throws a fit when I give her the last spoonful and announce "All gone!". She's getting more "regular" now too - almost every day she has a messy (And I do mean messy!) diaper. They are thick and sometimes green!

We are still going to wait to try any fruits or veggies until 6 months. For now she seems to be doing really well on the cereal.

We took her to a friend's house last week and she was a perfect angel. She was cuddly and quiet. She even fed herself a bottle while we were outside.

She hasn't rolled over since Christmas....BUT last night I had her laying down in front of her piano, which she usually likes to kick with her feet. She decided that she wanted to play it with her hands instead. I was busying myself around her and almost didn't notice that she SAT UP by herself and was playing the piano with her hands! I walked by her a couple times and then I FREAKED OUT and got the video camera.

I laid her back down and sure as sh*t, she leaned on one of her elbows and rolled right up to the piano. She doesn't like to sit by herself and prop herself up on her arms yet though, and she is just DONE with tummy time. She lasts maybe a second before she throws a giant fit.

This morning I had her in her walker, and she "walked" forward about a foot. It's funny because she usually goes backwards. In either case, I am really glad that we decided to install the safety gates this weekend.

She's pretty amazing, she grabs at everything. I can't sit at the computer with her anymore, since she likes to type and hit the spacebar on me. She still loves bath time. She gets so excited when she's laying somewhere and she wants someone to pick her up... she starts shaking and holding her arms and legs up in the air. She loves playing in her doorway jumper and can't seem to get to sleep at night without her "baby" - a stuffed bear/blankie and her pacifier. She's been nursing really well despite acting like she's not getting enough - I hope it's just an extended growth spurt (can they last 3 weeks?). She can grab both her feet when sitting supported or when laying on her back.

I have to make her 6-month doctor and 6-month photo appointment. I can't believe how big my little girl is getting. I love how cuddly and sweet she can be. This morning Tim kissed her good bye and he accidentally gave her a shock at the same time...you should have seen the look on her little face. She kept looking from me to Tim with a cry face, not sure what to do. The kid has a slow reaction time...she started crying almost a minute later, after she had time to think about it. She does the same thing when she bumps her head. I usually think she's going to be ok, but then the realization hits her. So cute.

She seems to be hitting some of her milestones, but I am worried because she doesn't seem to repeat anything and sometimes seems to revert almost.

Marlee HAS done the following, though each new thing means she's abandoned the last:

*) rolled from tummy to back (but not back to tummy), rolls from side to side and grabs her feet

*) pushes up when on tummy and reaches for toys I put in front of her. Not quite coordinated to push up on her knees yet.

*) sits supported for long periods of time

*) does a half sit up - and has sat up on her own but doesn't like to support herself with her hands - she needs something else in front to hold on to

*) stands and bears weight on her legs very well - we have a video of her standing against the couch watching TV - no one holding her

*) grabs at everything and makes it in her mouth - she recently started sucking her thumb consistently and can find her pacifier and get it back in her mouth too

*) talks, squeals, she sounds like a cat, no real consonants yet. No laughing either - she sometimes ha ha ha's when she's hungry though.

*) pushes forward when in her walker (and backward)

*) feeds herself - can hold her bottle and drink unassisted.
